The Canadian Forces Snowbirds' show Wednesday afternoon over Okanagan Lake Beach on the opening day of the Penticton Peach Festival has been canceled.
The news follows an incident Tuesday at Ft. St. John involving a Snowbirds aircraft and pilot.
"The aircraft was departing Ft. St. John and something occured," Canadian Armed Forces Public Affairs Officer Trevor Reid told PentictonNow Tuesday evening. "The aircraft was able to land, however it did suffer some damage in that landing.
"So while the investigation is underway to what happened today at Ft. St. John, the CT-114 Tutors that the Snowbirds Air Demonstration Squadron fly are not being flown."
Reid assured us there were no injuries in the incident. "However," he added, "the pilot was examined by medical professionals in accordance with Royal Canadian Air Force procedure when something like this happens."
According to Elizabeth Marion of the Peach Festival Society, the Snowbirds team will follow through with its other local obligations, including a static display at the Penticton airport at 10 am and participation in the traditional peach bin races in the 100 block of Main Street at noon.
The incident does not impact the Canadian Forces Skyhawks Parachute Team, which will perform Wednesday at 5 pm.
