An Emergency Animal Shelter for dogs has opened up in a Prince George warehouse at 965 Winnipeg Street.
Due to the provincial state of emergency, the BC SPCA Prince George Shelter hit capacity as animals were unable to join their families in evacuation centres.
The SPCA expects to see even more animals due to the hundreds of current wildfires.
In order to set up this temporary shelter, a space for large, small and nervous dogs is needed. There also needs to be areas for animal intake, food preparation, exercise runs, medical examination and isolation.
With animals being in close quarters, vaccinations need to be checked, updated and monitored closely.
The BC SPCA is asking for the public’s help in ensuring the proper care can be provided to these animals. Visit the BC SPCA emergency alert website to donate.
If you are an evacuee, contact the Emergency Social Services coordinating evacuation centres in your area to find out what options you and your pet have.
