Historical site receives art grant to promote resilience

The B.C. Government will be awarding Prince George with $5,000 as part of a provincial grant to promote resilience through art.

Over 55 communities around the province will be benefiting from the special community resilience grant program.

The $535,000 program is designed to enhance community engagement and strengthen resilience in some of the smaller communities around the province.

Altogether, 61 grants will be awarded, with 29 going to communities in wild-fire affected regions and another 32 for projects that support Indigenous culture.

Prince George is set to receive $5,000 that will go towards the Huble Homestead/Giscome Portage Heritage Society.

The money will be used to design a children’s book that explores a year in the life of a young Lheidli T’enneh girl at the turn of the 20th century.

“We know that small communities in B.C. experience many environmental, social and economic hardships,” said Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development and MLA for Stikine.

“These grants will go a long way to improve the lives of those struggling to overcome natural and social devastation, by showcasing the unique culture, art and enduring strength of all people in this province.”
