(UPDATE: April 20 @ 1:33 pm): Police have identified the driver of the vehicle and determined that his intentions were innocent.
"Thankfully, the driver of the vehicle knows the youth but in this instance, the youth did not recognize the familiar face out of context," the RCMP explained.
(Original story: April 20 @ 1:15 pm): Police in Prince George are asking for the public’s help to identify a man accused of trying to get a child into his car.
It happened between 2:30 pm and 3 pm on Monday around the 300 block of Wilson Crescent, the RCMP said.
A boy told police a tan-coloured vehicle with tinted windows approached him and a man inside tried to get the boy to enter.
An older student called out to the boy, however, and offered to walk him home.
As the older student approached, the vehicle reportedly drove away.
“Investigators are asking that anyone who noticed a vehicle matching that description to contact the detachment with their information,” said Cst. Jennifer Cooper.
“Additionally, residents in that area who have video surveillance watching the street should check their recordings for images of this vehicle or incident. Police would like to speak with the driver of the vehicle and encourage them to self-identify.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.
