$300K in play space upgrades up for grabs in B.C.

Does a play space in your B.C. community need a boost? You can help by speaking up.

This year, BCAA Play Here will provide three communities with $100,000 to rejuvenate play spaces which help kids play and learn.

"Having a great place to play is such an important part of a fun and educational childhood," said BCAA president and CEO Shom Sen. "The incredible response to last year's program shows how much need there is across B.C. for better places for kids to play and learn, and BCAA is excited to increase our total contribution to $300,000 and adding more winners."

Last year, community groups nominated over 530 play spaces across the province in need of revitalization and British Columbians cast over 300,000 votes to decide the winners.

In the end, children in Lillooet and Victoria's Torquay Elementary School both got new play spaces worth $100,000 each while communities in Burnaby, Crawford Bay and Vancouver received $20,000 each as runners-ups.

The grant can go towards any space, whether it’s indoors or outdoors, including playgrounds, music rooms, after-school study areas, and sports or activities spaces.

Only non-profit community groups can nominate a play space in need so residents are encouraged to contact them with their suggestions.

A panel of judges will shortlist nominations and present 10 finalists for online voting. Winners will be picked based on the top three with the most verified votes.

The three winning projects will be announced at the end of June.

Nominations are open from March 20th to April 13th. Top 10 finalists will be announced: May 22nd. Public voting will run from May 22nd to June 18th and the winners will be announced on June 23rd.
