2 young girls home safe after reported abduction in Vancouver

A pair of young girls allegedly taken from their Vancouver home on Thursday night have been found and are safe, police say.

The Vancouver Police Department put out a public alert early this morning about the alleged abduction.

Investigators believed that 37-year-old Alana Ridings took sisters Maryam and Mary Alsheehadeh, aged nine and seven, from their mother’s home in the Strathcona neighbourhood around 7 pm.

“Alana is known to the children and their mother, and there is no indication that either child has been harmed or is in imminent danger,” a VPD release explained.

“Investigators believe there is no concern for the safety of any other children in the community.”

Just over two hours later, the VPD reported that the young girls “have returned home and are safe.”

Police said one woman was arrested in connection to the incident.

No further details are available at this time.
