BC Culture Days kicks off across the province

The 13th annual BC Culture Days kicked off in Vernon this morning, signaling a three-week provincial feature on arts and culture.

From Sept. 23 to Oct. 16, people can experience a wide range of free, online and in-person activities that offer a fun and safe way to learn and explore all things color, creativity, and community.

Over the years, thousands of people across Canada have participated in hundreds of events and this year is no different.

With scavenger hunts, poetry slams, art galleries, dance programs and hands-on workshops all scheduled for the 2023 season, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

“In Canada, and here in BC, Culture Days is an invitation to residents, and everyone who makes our province so dynamic, to celebrate who we are and where we came from,” said Melanie Mark, Hli Haykwhl Ẃii Xsgaak, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

“We are proud to proclaim BC Culture Days and to support communities with free and affordable events that celebrate our diverse history – together.”

BC Culture Days are administered through the Society to Bridge Arts and Community (Bridge Society), a charitable organization that has the mandate to promote awareness of arts and culture by establishing bridges between the general public, the private sector, arts organizations, and individual artists.

Bridge Society staff work together with a volunteer provincial task force and steering committee, municipalities, and numerous community arts and cultural organizations to coordinate plans for the annual Culture Days celebrations.

Each year, up to ten emerging artists from across the province are selected to participate in the BC Culture Days Ambassador Program.

These artists are given the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program with an established artist and contribute to a creative project aimed at enhancing community engagement.
