British Columbia’s daily case counts continue to stay low with another day of just over 100 cases today.
Health officials reported 113 new cases across the province, with nearly all of them coming in Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health and Interior Health.
Island Health had just four new cases, while Northern Health didn’t have any.
BC currently has 1,454 active cases of COVID-19 and 134 people hospitalized due to the virus, with 41 of them in critical care.
Unfortunately, there were four more people who died from COVID-19 in BC over the past 24 hours, which brings the province’s pandemic death toll to 1,738.
Twelve of those deaths came from the Spring Valley Care Centre outbreak in Kelowna, which was finally declared over today.
Once again, there was plenty of positive news on the vaccination front today, as more than 53,000 BC residents received their second dose.
There have now been 4,165,142 doses of all three COVID-19 vaccines administered in BC and 710,847 of those are second doses.
The percentage of British Columbian adults with their first dose continues to climb slowly, now at 76.3%, but the province has hit a threshold where most who want to be vaccinated have had that first dose.
"British Columbia has some of the highest levels of immunization for dose one in the world - something we can be incredibly proud of - and we have the ability to push that even higher,” said today’s joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry and Adrian Dix.
"If you haven't yet had a chance to book your first dose, please take a moment to do that today. Equally important, encourage those around you to do the same.”
