BC reports 832 new cases of COVID-19 and 5 deaths

British Columbia is reporting 832 new cases in the past 24 hours bringing the total number of active cases to 5,697.

From the new/active cases this is where they are coming from in each region:

  • Fraser Health: 377 new cases (1,932 active)

  • Interior Health: 153 new cases (1,181 active)

  • Northern Health: 117 new cases (977 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 114 new cases (909 active)

  • Island Health: 71 new cases (654 active)

  • No new cases of people who reside outside of Canada (44 active)


There are currently 330 people in hospital with 148 of those individuals in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self isolation.

In the past 24 hours there have been five new deaths reported, bringing the provincial pandemic death toll to 1,915.

Of the new deaths; two were reported in Fraser Health, two in Interior Health, and one in Northern Health.

There are no new health care facility outbreaks, and the outbreak at Brookhaven Care Centre in Interior Health has been declared over. This brings the total number of active outbreaks in the province to 22.

  • Interior Health: Village at Mill Creek – second floor, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Spring Valley Care Centre, Kamloops Seniors Village, Hillside Village, The Hamlets at Westsyde, Joseph Creek Care Village, Overlander, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, David Lloyd Jones, Sun Pointe Village and Hardy View Lodge

  • Fraser Health: Northcrest Care Centre, Westminster House, Menno Terrace East, Chilliwack General Hospital, and Sunset Manor

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Arbutus Care Centre, Louis Brier Home and Hospital

  • Northern Health: Jubilee Lodge and Fort St. John Hospital

  • Island Health: Victoria Chinatown Care Centre


In the past week (Sept. 15-21) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 2,996 (67.8%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 342 (7.7%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,079 (24.4%)

In the past week (Sept. 15-21) this is how cases per 100,000 population were broken down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 289.0

  • Partially vaccinated: 87.9

  • Fully vaccinated: 27.0

Over the past two weeks (Sept. 8-21) this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccianted to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 327 (74.8%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 34 (7.8%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 76 (17.4%)

Over the past two week (Sept. 8-21) this is how cases hospiliated per 100,000 population after adjusting for age were broken from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 46.5

  • Partially vaccinated: 13.3

  • Fully vaccinated: 1.8

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 25.8 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.


The province has administered 7,756,634 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since December 2020.

Of eligible people 12 and older in BC, 87.3% (4,046,960) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 79.9% (3,701,696) have received their second dose.

From the eligible adults in BC, 87.8% (3,799,479) have received their first dose and 80.7% (3,490,764) received their second dose.
