The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says its officers seized nearly 150 kilograms of methamphetamine over six different occasions at Vancouver International Airport.
A news release says the drugs were hidden in passengers’ suitcases and bound for export to Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.
The BCSA says the estimated street value of the drugs was $500,000.
The first seizure happened on Jan. 18 and involved 35.7 kg of meth wrapped in gift wrap and hidden in two suitcases.
On Jan. 31, 28.5 kg of meth was seized after officers found it hidden in coffee bags.
On Feb. 16, CBSA officers found 23.56 kg of meth hidden in packages wrapped in towels soaked with vinegar and cayenne pepper in an attempt to mask the smell.
Three days later, officers intercepted three different packages of the drugs.
That included 16.4 kg hidden in various pieces of clothing, 19.2 kg hidden in clothes and 25.5 kg hidden in vacuum sealed bags.
On all six instances, the travellers were arrested by the RCMP’s Federal police Pacific Region unit.
