‘Dreams can come true’: BC man scores $1M from Lotto Max draw

George Bountalas likes to dream big and it recently paid off for him in spades.

The Maple Ridge resident was one of the Maxmillion winners from the June 4 Lotto Max draw, which netted him a cool $1-million prize.

“I saw the $70-million jackpot and decided, why not? Let’s give this a go,” he explained. “Dreams are free and dreams can come true!”

He bought the life-changing ticket at Petro Canada on Lougheed Highway, but was at work when he realized he was a winner.

“I immediately called my wife and said ‘everything is OK but I think we won a million dollars,” Bountalas recalled.

“She told me to come now but I told her that I had an hour to go at work… my heart was beating and I tried my best to focus!”

Calling this experience “surreal and a roller coaster of emotion,” Bountalas plans on putting his prize money towards a family roadtrip to visit relatives in Alberta.

He also plans on visiting Greece when it’s safe to do so, but he certainly won’t be slumming it while he’s there.

“This will give me more choices and a little nicer hotel room (when I travel) every now and again,” he said.

He added that he also plans to set some aside to gift to family members.

That $70-million jackpot Bountalas was gunning for is still up for grabs and your next chance to win it is this evening!
