An Abbotsford man has been banned from driving for 90 days after being busted for impaired driving in the Fraser Valley last week.
The loaded dump truck he was behind the wheel of will spent a month in the impound lot.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says they were alerted about the dump truck “driving dangerously” on Hwy 1 eastbound through Chilliwack around 9:30 am on Wednesday, April 9.
“The caller who alerted police did a great job describing the driving behaviour and location of the truck,” says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
A pair of BCHP patrol vehicles intercepted the truck near Popkum Road and initiated a traffic stop.
The 64-year-old driver failed a roadside breathalyzer test, resulting in a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day impound for the commercial vehicle.
“We are obviously very concerned whenever a professional dump truck driver makes the decision to drive while impaired,” McLaughlin noted.
The Abbotsford company that owns the truck will be responsible for the towing and impound costs, which will be several thousands dollars by the time all is said and done.
According to the BCHP, the driver was picked up and driven home by his wife that morning.
