An investigation has been launched after an inmate at a BC prison was assaulted and injured this week.
According to a news release from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), the assault happened on Tuesday.
Staff at the Kent Institution evaluated the injured inmate and determined it was best he be transported to an outside hospital for medical treatment.
The Agassiz RCMP are supporting the investigation, said CSC.
An assailant has been identified and “appropriate” actions have been taken, the release noted.
No other injuries were reported.
The assault happened just days after four inmates at the prison, which is east of Vancouver and is BC’s only maximum security prison, were charged in connection to a fight that ended with an inmate’s death in December 2024.
“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the CSC said.
“In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures.”
