“Due to the situation at hand,” other support units were called to assist, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

After ERT arrived, the suspect, identified as Derian Tate, was arrested at the scene “without incident.”

Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) took conduct of the investigation, and the charge was announced today.

Police say he was scheduled to appear in court today via video, and will be back in court on Oct. 8, 2024.
