UPDATE: Police searching home and business in connection to deadly assault

(Update: Oct. 11, 2024): RCMP have said officers have advanced their investigation into a recent suspected homicide on Vancouver Island.

On October 6, 2024, at 4:33 pm, Port Hardy RCMP received a report of an injured person that was believed to have been assaulted in the 8800-block of Park Drive. The person was transported to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has executed search warrants at a local home and business in relation to the investigation. They did not share if any significant discoveries were made.

"Investigators are grateful for the cooperation and support they have received from the community while they continue to gather evidence," the department said.

"Based on the information to date, it is believed that this was targeted incident with no ongoing risk to the community."

Anyone with information about this incident or who was in the area and has dash camera footage is asked to call the VIIMCU Information Line at (250) 380-6211.

Homicide investigators are seeking information after a person was killed following a serious assault in Port Hardy, Vancouver Island.

On Oct. 6, 2024, at 4:33 pm, RCMP received a report of an injured person who was believed to have been assaulted in the 8800-block of Park Drive.

The victim was transported to hospital where, sadly, they succumbed to their injuries.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has been deployed to assist with the investigation, which also involves the RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Forensic Identification Section.

Police say the investigation is still in the evidence gathering stage, so no additional details can be shared at this time.
