Police arrest 15-year-old after BC crime spree that included multiple armed carjackings

A 15-year-old is believed to be the one behind a crime spree that included multiple armed carjackings and a break and enter.

North Vancouver RCMP pieced together a timeline of the teenager’s alleged crime spree after arresting him late Wednesday evening at a gas station on Capilano Road.

He allegedly pointed a firearm at his final victim and demanded keys to his vehicle, but the man was able to wrestle the gun away and pin the suspect down until officers arrived.

After arresting the suspect, police learned that the gun is likely a replica firearm.

Earlier in the evening, around 5:30 pm, the same suspect is believed to have broken into a North Vancouver residence and stolen a vehicle that was later found seriously damaged after a crash.

Around 8 pm that night, the teen allegedly carjacked a vehicle from a couple in the Capilano Suspension Bridge parking lot.

Police said he showed the firearm in his waistband during the incident, but the victims were fortunately not harmed.

Their vehicle was later found abandoned nearby.

“It’s very concerning, alarming and frightening,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak. “The victims in these cases were out enjoying an evening and the last thing that they expected was for something so violent and so brazen as this to happen.”

After the suspect’s arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at his home and found a number of stolen items that have been linked to other offences.

The 15-year-old is now facing robbery and firearms charges and more charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Due to the suspect’s age, his name can’t be published.
