Officers from the Richmond RCMP Anti-Gang Unit have shut down an illegal booze can, or an illegal club, for the second time this month.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, December 3rd, officers shut down the two-level unit located in the 11700 block of Voyageur Way, situated in the industrial area.
“This booze can was far more elaborate than the first one we discovered around a month ago. We are concerned for a number of reasons with public safety being at the forefront,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
“Safety risks including attracting the criminal element, gambling, potential fire hazards/overcrowding, unlicensed liquor service, and the potential road safety concerns with possible impaired drivers leaving the unit.”
Police say it had similarities to a karaoke lounge and was estimated at more than 2,000 square feet.
Alcohol was served openly with liquor discovered throughout. Around 20 patrons were discovered within the unit from 19 to 25 years of age.
Police say the unit was set up with projectors, karaoke machines, a gambling area, and professional-grade lighting similar to a nightclub. A video monitoring area was discovered by officers, set up at the front entrance.
