UPDATE: JRCC calls off search for missing plane

(Update: 6:15 p.m.): The search for a small, private plane with two people on board that went missing somewhere in the B.C. Interior has officially been called off.

At 3 p.m. today, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Victoria (JRCC) made the difficult decision to suspend their search and transfer the case to the RCMP.

"Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the missing pilot and passenger during this extremely difficult time," The JRCC wrote in a Facebook post.

Over the last seven days, Royal Canadian Air Force and CASARA aircraft have flown approximately 320 hours in challenging weather conditions, covering more than 14,000 square kilometres in the areas surrounding the last known location and filed flight plan of the missing plane.

The plane, which officially went missing at 2 p.m. last Friday, was flying from Edmonton to Chilliwack before it went down.

(Original Story: Sept. 18th, 11:20 a.m.): Only days after the wreckage of a small plane that went down in November 2017 was found, a new search is underway.

It began on Friday around 2 p.m., when a small private plane with two people aboard went missing while travelling from Edmonton, Alta. to Chilliwack, B.C.

The search for the missing plane, a white Vans RV6, is currently centred in the B.C. Interior, between Kamloops and Valemount.

Based on the filed flight plan, cell tower information and radar information, the search is primarily focused on the Blue River area.

Currently, there are four Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft and six Civil Air Search and Rescue Association aircraft searching for the missing plane.

According to Maritime Forces Pacific, the RCAF is using a pair of CC-115 Buffalo fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft and two CH-149 Cormorant helicopters.

Low ceilings and low visibility had hindered the search over the previous few days, but it has improved today offering increased visibility and lighter winds.
