UPDATE: VPD recover a portion of stolen cancer wigs meant for BC Children's Hospital

(UPDATE: Sept. 14 @ 10:30 a.m.) - Some of the $300,000 worth of wigs that were stolen from Eva and Company Wigs in Vancouver have been recovered.

In total, about 150 wigs made from human hair, and meant for cancer patients at BC Children's Hospital, went missing during a break in on Sept. 7.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Vancouver Police officers received a report of a bag of wigs being found in a hotel hallway in the downtown eastside.

The VPD seized the wigs and are continuing their investigation, but no arrests have been made.

“The person who located the bag of wigs immediately linked them to the media coverage about the theft and called 9-1-1,” said VPD Constable Jason Doucette.

“Although we’ve recovered a portion of the wigs, the investigation remains a priority. We would like to get the remainder of the property back and make an arrest in this case.”

Anyone with information on the location of the rest of the wigs is asked to call the VPD.

(Original story: Sept. 12 @ 11:30 a.m.) - It’s hard to think of a more heartless crime than this.

A collection of wigs worth more than $350,000 was stolen from a Vancouver store last week.

Those wigs were meant to go to cancer patients at BC Children’s Hospital.

Police responded to an alarm at the store on Vancouver’s west side at 3:30 a.m. on Friday and discovered the theft.

The suspect is described as a man with long curly black hair and he was last seen walking away from the store in a denim or blue jacket, carrying a large black garbage bag.

"It’s possible that someone is in possession of one or more of these wigs, and that they don’t know they’re stolen or that they were meant for sick children," said Sgt. Jason Robillard.

Police are desperate for anyone to come forward with any information regarding this crime.
