A traffic stop carried out by the Grand Forks RCMP led to the seizure of drug trafficking quantities of suspected illicit drugs being hauled through the Boundary Region.
On Oct. 8, 2020 shortly before 5:30 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop of a grey Ford Taurus.
The vehicle was seen being driven in an erratic manner along Highway 3 near Reservoir Road in Grand Forks.
Soon the traffic stop turned into a suspected drug trafficking investigation, and the Police Dog Services (PSD) was called to the scene.
PSD Jimmy, who conducted a search of the passenger vehicle with his handler, indicated the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.
Over 1,000 doses of suspected heroin and over 130 grams of suspected cocaine were seized from the vehicle. The vehicle itself was also seized in relation to proceeds of crime.
The driver, a 39-year-old Grand Forks man, was later released from police custody on conditions.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time, the full findings of which will be forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada for charge assessment.
