Teenage boy sentenced after girl, 13, died from MDMA overdose in BC

A teenager has been sentenced in a drug trafficking case after a 13-year-old girl died from taking MDMA in British Columbia.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was sentenced to four months of open custody, two months of community supervision and 18 months of intensive support and supervision.

He pled guilty in Sept. 2018 to trafficking a controlled substance.

New Westminster police said the boy and girl bought MDMA from a street dealer at the 22nd Skytrain station in the city.

They were heading home to Port Coquitlam when the girl became ill and later died in hospital.

Toxicology results showed she had died from an MDMA overdose.

“Essentially, he was sentenced to two months in youth detention, followed by community supervision, and intensive support and supervision,” said Sgt Jeff Scott.

“We continue to work closely with our community partners to help educate teenagers about the risk of drug use, and to provide assistance to parents and guardians as they navigate the challenges and complexities of supporting their teenagers.”
