Trudeau and Horgan team up to announce BC Emergency Committee

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, spent his afternoon touring the flood damage in Abbotsford and the Sumas Valley before meeting with BC Premier, John Horgan today.

Both government officials used their evening to establish a plan of action for the province, as a new committee has been formed to combat these extremely difficult times.

The emergency committee will be built out of Federal and Provincial Ministers, who will be working together to ensure that all pressing issues that BC is currently faced with are being dealt with in a timely manner.

This disaster response and climate resilience committee will be focused on establishing a way forward for the province on how to ‘build back better', and that people and property will be protected in the future.

“How we get things done right, right now and for the months to come, needs the kind of coordination and collaboration that happens when you put strong Ministers from different orders of government in a room together. To work out the best way we can do this with the big picture in mind, and with a focus on the individuals affected,” explained Trudeau.

Horgan and Trudeau also promised that both levels of government will be matching each dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross, to help those who have been impacted by flood and extreme weather conditions.

“I encourage British Columbians and others to give a dollar, and that’ll be three dollars going to helping people in distress in those areas,” said Horgan.
