Crews on site to road crumbling off of cliff south of Penticton

A road south of Penticton has been closed to southbound traffic after a Facebook user photographed its edge crumbling over the side of a cliff.

Tera-Lee Derkatch-Caverly photographed the precarious edge of Eastside Road from her boat on Skaha Lake, eliciting concerns from several other Facebook users.

According to Derkatch-Caverly, the photo does not do the situation justice.

"Was shocked to see it. It's actually worse than the picture looks. Probably 3 to 4-feet of dirt missing under the road," she said.

"The one cement barricade is ready to fall."

Many urged her to call the RDOS, RCMP and AIM organizations, others claimed they made the report to pertinent authorities.

Crews, including RCMP and AIM contracting, are on site at the road incident assessing the damage.

According to RCMP, the road has been closed in that area to southbound traffic in the area, which is below Kipper Cove.
