(Update 11 a.m.) - RCMP have confirmed that the head-on collision north of Vernon claimed one life.
According to RCMP, the driver of one of the vehicles, a 32-year-old male from Nelson B.C., died as a result of the collision.
The other driver was transported by BC Ambulance Services to the nearest medical facility for what appears to be minor injuries.
"At the time of the collision, road conditions were poor and may have been a factor, however, the North Okanagan Traffic Services has assumed the lead in the investigation and cause of the collision is still yet to be determined," said Cst. Kelly Brett. "The highway was closed for approximately 5 hours while the collision analysts conducted their investigation. Vehicles have since been cleared and the highway is open."

North Okanagan RCMP are investigating a fatal collision involving two vehicles, which occurred late Tuesday morning just north of Vernon.
DriveBC has reported that Highway 97A is closed north of Vernon due to the vehicle incident.

A detour is available Northbound at Eagle Rock Road, and Southbound via Pleasant Valley Road.
