Kamloops motorists should be prepared for change when it comes to the Victoria Street West Improvements Project.
According to the City of Kamloops, effective immediately, Stage 1 of the project, which is located below the BCLC, will be opened up to one westbound travel lane. The priority transit and emergency services lane on Lansdowne Street between 2nd Avenue and 1st Avenue will remain in place.
Transit, emergency vehicles, and other traffic will merge into the one westbound travel lane in Stage 1. The slip lane from Victoria Street West to Seymour Street West will remain closed until further notice.
Between Landsdowne Street and Seymour Street, 1st Avenue will remain one-way southbound. Traffic travelling up 1st Avenue will still be able to turn left onto Seymour Street or continue up the road. A traffic control person will be stationed at the intersection to keep things running smoothly.
By the end of Saturday, Stage 1 is expected to be fully reopened to traffic. Traffic below the BCLC will be westbound while the traffic above it will be eastbound. 1st Avenue between Lansdowne and Seymour Street will then return to two-way directional traffic.
Traffic travelling eastbound on Seymour Street West will be able to turn left or right onto 1st Avenue, or continue on Seymour Street.
Crews will be paving and installing Silva Cell during the week so motorists will need to be cautious in the area.
