UPDATE: Police confirm Hwy 1 crash near Boston Bar was fatal, highway now open

(UPDATE: July 12 @ 5:01 am) - The highway is now open.


(UPDATE: July 11 @ 3:35 pm) - A crash that has the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) shut down near Boston Bar was fatal, police have confirmed.

According to the BC Highway Patrol, emergency crews were called to the scene of the "serious collision" between the Ferrabee Tunnel and Boston Bar around 2 pm.

When they arrived, two people were found dead.

The BCHP says it is investigating the cause of the crash and "nothing has been ruled out at this time."

The highway remains closed in both directions and will stay that way until police can gather evidence and ensure the road is safe for travel.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has yet to speak with police, or anyone with relevant dash cam footage from the area, is urged to contact the BCHP at 604-702-4039.

(Original story: July 11 @ 2:45 pm) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) is currently shut down in both directions through the Fraser Canyon.

DriveBC reports that the highway has been shuttered just north of Ferrabee Tunnel near Boston Bar.

“Expect significant delays and consider using alternate routes,” a DriveBC post on X/Twitter says.

According to DriveBC, a "vehicle incident" is the cause of the closure.

Members of the Coquihalla Road Reports Facebook group claim it’s a multi-vehicle crash.
