Missing Penticton man found alive in Dawson Creek after being kidnapped

A bizarre story is surfacing out of northern B.C.

Keith Koponyas was visiting friends in Langley in late August when he went missing.

The 21-year-old Penticton native somehow made his way about 1,100 kms to Dawson Creek and that’s where he was found on Saturday, September 2nd.

However, this wasn’t a case of Koponyas running away.

Dawson Creek RCMP say they were called to a rural resident at 10:50 a.m. that day after a female reported she had been kidnapped and held against her will for several days.

Two individuals escaped their captors and informed local police that a third victim was still being held against his will.

RCMP and the Emergency Response Team attended the residence and located the third victim.

According to CTV Vancouver, that third victim is Koponyas, who had also been working in Dawson Creek of late.

More details about the kidnapping or the suspects haven’t been made available, but the RCMP say there’s no reason to believe there’s any risk to the general public.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700.
