For the third straight year, Sun Peaks will host the Canadian National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships and introduce a new course at the same time.
Using feedback from last year’s competitors, this year’s course has been completely redesigned, featuring 50 per cent new trail woven into existing sections.
The track has been entirely hand built and is promised to be more demanding and will feature more spectator-friendly viewing areas.
The top-to-bottom course will begin at the Sunburst Patio and finish at the Okanagan Springs Beer Gardens located near Bento’s Day Lodge.
"The new race course is nothing like the track used in the past, it will test racers' bike handling skills for the fastest times," explains Sun Peaks Bike Park Coordinator, James Jeffries. "The new course is 100% single-track, with a select few machine built features and segments to keep things interesting, starting from the top of the Sunburst chairlift on 'Insanity One' right to the base of the mountain.”
The championships will take place from July 23-24, but will also feature ‘citizen classes’, allowing anyone to enter and ride the same track as the pros.
