Sunday Social Connection: @emilymayphotographer

My name is Emily and I've been a photographer in Kamloops for six years. I moved to Kamloops to attend TRU and found my home in the Actor's Workshop Theatre. The folks from AWT were my first clients and little did I know it would be the start of something amazing.

I'm a wife to be and a mom to one rambunctious one and a half year old. You'll see her often in my feed or on my stories!

Why do you use Instagram?

Instagram is a great way to connect with past and future clients, fellow photographers and other business owners that are both local and global. It's so neat to see what others are up to, check out some behind the scene shots and of course for checking in on what Kristen Bell is doing in her life.

What will people see on your feed?

Moody edits featuring a smattering of boudoir, a sprinkle of portraits, a pinch of wedding photos and a dash of family photos. I shoot a lot of different types of photography but have found my love in boudoir.

Does your page have a specific style?

I'm slowly moving in that direction. Many photographers that I look up to are amazing at showing their cohesive brand in a continuous snapshot throughout their feed.

Favorite Instagram accounts to follow?

@rozalindboudoir @cocoadotcakes @mastermindstudioskamloops @toothandeye

All for very different reasons! Rozalind is absolute goals. Her photos are so emotive. Megan from Cocoa Dot cakes always makes me hungry with her delicious looking cakes and has been a huge supporter for me. Mastermind is one of the coolest new venues in town and always has something going on and Vanessa makes me drool over her handmade pieces.

How do you decide on your location for shoots?

I have a few spots that I love but I want it to have meaning to the person or the family. I've been branching out a bit more and hiking and exploring around Valleyview lately. Kamloops is so beautiful you never have to go very far to find somewhere amazing.

Biggest Instagram moment?

I recently did a creative shoot with Miss Grand Canada 2017, Natalie Allin. I worked with my fabulous team which included Strut Beauty Professional Makeup Artist, Elishia Scissorhands, Tooth and Eye and the Plaza Hotel, with Kora Vanderlip capturing video and it was incredible. One of Natalie's posts of our photo reached 1400 likes! Which is SO COOL.

Oh! And having photos featured on Eclipse's Instagram and in their Canada wide marketing campaign. All because of Instagram!
