Sunwing Airlines is going a different direction than Air Canada and WestJet.
The company announced late on Tuesday that it would be grounding its four Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes in Canada following a pair of deadly crashes abroad.
Sunwing released a statement that said it has “confidence in the investigative process” underway by the Federal Aviation Administration and Transport Canada.
Despite that, the airline is grounding the planes for “evolving commercial reasons unrelated to safety including airspace restrictions being imposed by some of our partner destinations.”
With airlines and countries in other parts of the world grounding the planes or banning them from their airspace, Sunwing’s decision is largely based on that inconvenience.

“We are in the process of revising our flying schedule to accommodate the temporary removal of our MAX aircraft from service,” said Sunwing’s statement, adding that the airline appreciate the patience of its customers.
“We will endeavour to minimize the impact of these schedule changes, which we believe is achievable given that the MAX 8 makes up less than 10% of our fleet.”
Air Canada and WestJet aren’t grounding their Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes, but the airlines will have to make adjustments to their travel schedules to accommodate countries that have imposed regulations on the planes.
Marc Garneau, Canada’s transport minister, will provide an update on the country’s plan regarding these planes on Wednesday morning in Ottawa.
