Hike for Hospice returns for 20th anniversary next month

The North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS) has just announced they will be taking part in the 2022 national Hike for Hospice fundraiser.

Now in its 20th year, the hike helps to raise funds for local operations and programs at hospice homes where those at the end of life are cared for.

The Hike for Hospice is coordinated in part by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, the national association that provides leadership in hospice palliative and end-of-life care in Canada.

As for NOHS, the society is currently recognized as a leader in the development and delivery of comprehensive hospice palliative care services in British Columbia.

“We appreciate the tremendous support and participation from our supporters around the region in our previous Hikes for Hospice,” says Lisa Matthews, Executive Director, NOHS.

“The North Okanagan Hospice Society is fortunate to have such great community involvement and we invite everyone to join us once again in taking part in this wonderful event.”

NOHS encourages hikers of all ages and abilities as well as their four-legged friends, to come out for this fun community event that begins at Polson Park in Vernon on June 5.

Matthews added: “In honor of the Hike’s 20th Anniversary, we felt it was a good time to bring back this nation-wide event, to help raise much-needed funds for NOHS and we hope supporters will return in 2022 to show their generosity once again.”

Participants are asked to gather donations and pledges from their supporters to benefit the charity by creating or joining a team at CanadaHelps.org.

NOHS is hoping to raise a grand total of $60,000 which will help to expand programs and services in the North Okanagan.
