A well known and believed to be haunted location in Victoria just made a list of the top spookiest places in Canada.
Travel Magazine named Craigdarroch Castle as one of the most haunted places in the country.
The historic castle was number one in the list, ahead of the Fairmont Banff Spring hotel in Alberta, Keg Mansion in Toronto, the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and Peggy’s Point Lighthouse in Nova Scotia.
According to the article, Craigdarroch is one of the most famously spooky castles in Canada, complete with it’s very own resident ghosts.
The castle was built by a wealthy Scottish immigrant Robert Dunsmuir, who made a fortune off coal on Vancouver Island.
He built the castle for his wife and 10 children between 1887 and 1890.
As the story goes, Dunsmuir didn’t get to enjoy his family home because he died a year before the build was done, leaving the entire estate to his wife Joan, who later died in 1908.
People have reportedly seen ghosts on the property, including a little girl crying, a maid and a woman in a white dress.
Rumour has it that a woman's feet have been seen running down the stairs and music has been heard, while its source remains a mystery.
