Victoria vet warns dog owners following an attack involving otters

A Victoria veterinarian has taken to Facebook to share the shocking details after her dog was viciously attacked by otters.

The post was published on the Kindred Spirits Veterinary Hospital Facebook page.

“Goldie decided it was a nice day for a swim. Upon entering the water Goldie spotted an otter swimming not too far away,” stated the post “Goldie decided to swim towards to otter to investigate What Goldie failed to realize, was that there were really three otters out for a swim.”

According to the post, the otters than grabbed Goldie and pulled her underwater.

The 60-pound dog was unable to escape from the otters and was so submerged that only her nose was showing.

Luckily, the incident was intervened by the dog walker and Goldie was rescued.

“Goldie escaped with just a few bite marks, the dog walker was a bit shaken up and cold from his ocean swim in February, and the otters were able to continue their swim without the company of a dog,” said the clinic.

The veterinary hospital would like to use this incident as a lesson to all dog owners as this is not the first time otters have attempted to lead dogs into the water.

“Please keep an eye out for otters while walking your dogs near water,” said the clinic. “If you notice otters at the beach, you may want to stay on leash or find another place to walk.”
