Opponents of the proposed supportive housing project for Kelowna's Agassiz Road gathered outside City Hall today.
What's proposed is a 52 unit low-barrier facility to house people who are either currently homeless or are at risk of being homeless. The BC Housing project would be operated by the John Howard Society. There have been assurances of a rigorous selection process, the promise of staff on site, design features to optimize security and a lot more. But residents are upset that residents will be permitted to do drugs on site. That was a common concern as about 75 residents from the neighbourhood proposal from the sidewalk in front of City Hall today.
The public hearing on the rezoning application to allow the project to proceed will be held on Thursday, January 17th.
