Over 200 Okanagan youth will take to the sky today as part of the annual COPA for Kids event.
Hosted at the Kelowna Flying Club, the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association come together once a year to bring the excitement of the aviation industry to youth around the Okanagan.
The free event is one of the most popular within the association, with registration in May hitting full capacity barely 24 hours after its announcement.
A fun-filled day on the tarmac, COPA for Kids offers Okanagan children the opportunity of a behind-the-scenes look at the aviation industry.
Youth from ages eight to 17 have the opportunity to go on a 20-minute plane ride around the Okanagan once they have completed their on-site, ground school safety training.
The rides are courtesy of pilots within the association who volunteer their Saturday and aircraft in the hopes of inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals!
Following their bird's-eye view of the valley, attendees are invited to learn from various aviation organizations at the aviation exhibition next to the landing strip to gain insight on their potential future careers.
While flights are all booked up for the day, folks are still invited to take in the action until 4 p.m. as there are a number of food trucks, kids activity stations and cool aircraft to explore.
