Yesterday, we heard how Doc Willoughby's Pub was planning for a May 19 opening. Now they've got company. The Train Station Pub is planning to open on the same schedule.
"That's our plan," said Dave Lindsay outside his Train Station Pub. "Assuming everything goes well and nobody tells us we can't, we'll be open."
Lindsay said the past few months have taught them that you have to move quickly in times like these.
"Each day is a new day and you've got to adapt, so we're doing that," he said. His wife co-owner Rhonda Lindsay said they've been preparing for this for a long time. "We ordered plexiglass two weeks ago," she said.
The Train Station has even created a hotline for people to call if they have concerns or suggestions. "Anyone can call in anonymously or leave their name for requests," said Rhonda. "That's a way for us to address anything," she added.
The couple says they understand that not everybody will agree with their decision to reopen at this stage. "Everyone's risk level is different," said Rhonda.
The Lindsays say visitors should expect to see fewer people in the pub because the numbers will be restricted and more cleaning activity going on.
"You're going to see more of the high touch points being addressed throughout your visit," said Dave Lindsay.
Dave Willoughby from Doc Willoughby's Pub publicized his plans for a May 19 opening on KelownaNow yesterday.
Pubs are part of the second phase of the BC COVID-19 Go-Forward Strategy. And the pub owners are basing their plans on the words of Premier John Horgan from last week. "Our expectation is that the restart plan will kick in on the 19th of May," said Horgan, "which is the Tuesday after the long weekend.”
Many other restaurants and pub owners are waiting for more clarity before making decisions about reopening.
