It is estimated to be around 3.8 hectares, down from seven.
(Original story: Aug. 3 @ 4:15 pm): Temperatures continue to heat up in the BC Interior and that is causing a plethora of fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
According to Fire Information Officer Gagan Lidhran, a seven-hectare blaze has ignited at the Coldwater River, right near the Coldwater interchange. Lidhran mentioned that the blaze first ignited following a motor vehicle incident in the area.
"That one was due to a motor vehicle incident," said Lidhran. "So it was a car fire early this morning, very early this morning. So we had an initial attack crew, three personnel as well as RCMP on-site with a flagger, due to how late the fire was."
Lidhran adds that 10 firefighters are battling the blaze today. She noted that it is "mostly a grassfire."
At this point, the fire is still "out of control." No structures are currently threatened.
There are currently 19 active fires burning in the KFC. NowMedia will update the story if any more information becomes available.
