(UPDATE: June 24 @ 8:15 am) - A multi-agency response help quickly knock down a wildfire that sparked along Hwy 5 south of Kamloops on Wednesday.
"This fire is a reminder to citizens that it is extremely hot and dry outside," explained Kamloops Fire Rescue.
"Properly disposing your cigarettes can save the city and province thousands of tax payers dollars!"
(Original story: June 23 @ 2:40 pm) - BC Wildfire is responding to a wildfire on Hwy 5, around 11 kilometers southwest of Kamloops between Chuwhels Mountain Road and Inks Lake Road.
The fire is estimated to be 0.5 hectares in size and out of control.
There are currently 10 BC Wildfire Service Personnel on scene, working alongside Kamloops Fire Rescue.
Currently, the northbound lane on Hwy 5 is closed, and smoke is visible to drivers.
The fire cause remains under investigation, but is suspected to be human-caused.
