VIDEO: How to saber a bottle of sparkling wine

*Safety Disclaimer: This holiday tradition does look fun, but please be advised that this can be dangerous! Please take extra precaution if you are trying this at home, and make sure to follow the directions!*

Tis’ the season for bubbles! We’ve got you covered with a tutorial for the most spectacular of party tricks - how to saber a bottle of sparkling wine!

It’s relatively straight forward, but may take a few tries until you hone your skill. A few tips to remember - the bottle needs to be ice cold. Store it in the freezer for 15 minutes, or chill it neck down in an ice bucket.

Find the seam of the bottle, where the glass is fused together. This is the weakest part of the bottle and why this trick works so well - this is where you’ll trace the blade of your knife (or saber if you own one). Remember to remove the foil and cage, but do not remove your hand from the cork after you’ve done so - no one wants one of those in the eye.

Position the bottle away from any friends or family, at a 45 degree angle. With the blunt edge of the knife firmly placed against the glass, swiftly run your blade along the bottle. If you’ve done it right, the top will effortlessly pop off. Make sure to retrieve the cork and glass immediately.

Have fun and happy sabering!
