The future of the NHL is no longer the future, he’s the present.
Auston Matthews has already established himself as a star in the NHL, and this year’s jersey sales proved just that.
The 20-year-old’s had the top-selling jersey this season, beating out a number of other big-name stars to grab that honour.
That includes last year’s top seller, Sidney Crosby, who finished as a runner-up to Matthews this year.
"We've got unbelievable fans here and every time we play it's awesome seeing your jersey in the stands," Matthews said Friday. "It's definitely something I don't take for granted."
Along with Crosby, Matthews also beat Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, who came third on the list.
A pair of goaltenders, Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers, rounded out the top five.
