Over the course of eight days, close to 40,000 hockey fans took in games at Sandman Centre and the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre. People in more than 100 Canadian communities purchased tickets and organizers said interest from across the country exceeded expectations.
Teams represented Canada, the U.S., the Czech Republic, Japan, Finland, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland, with the U.S. finishing ahead of Canada in the final gold medal game.
The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance’s Prestige Awards recognize events from local to national to major international championships and tournaments and honour outstanding volunteers and organizations who work to bid, host and stage sport events across Canada. Recipients were announced Tuesday during the CSTA's annual Sports Events Congress.
