Curling fans in Kelowna can look forward to watching some world class curling next spring.
Both the World Mixed Doubles and Senior Curling Championships are coming to the Kelowna Curling Club in 2020.
The two tournaments will run simultaneously from April 18-25, 2020.
“I am delighted that Kelowna has bid to host these world championships in 2020 so soon after running a successful World Mixed event in 2018,” said Kate Caithness, World Curling Federation president.
“With over 60 teams competing and supporters and media attending from across the world, as well as the World Mixed Doubles being one of our live TV events, I am in no doubt the coverage generated for curling’s newest Olympic discipline will be second to none.”
The quality of competition in 2020 is expected to be better than 2018 as the World Mixed event is being weeded down to just a 20-team field.
Canada is current the Olympic mixed doubles champions after Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris won the inaugural gold medal in this event last winter.
Kelowna Curling Club general manager Jock Tyre says they’re very excited to showcase both the club and city to the world.
