Falcons fall in series finale to Pippins

The Kelowna Falcons had their six-game road trip on a sour note as they fell to the Yakima Valley Pippins by a 13-5 score in the rubber match and final game of their season series.

The Pippins had two big innings to help them in their victory with four runs in the 3rd inning and six runs in the 8th inning to pick up the series victory over Kelowna. Jake Moberg had three hits while Cole Pofek hit his second home run in as many nights as the Pippins handed the Falcons their third series loss of the season.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI single from Cody Crowder and a sacrifice fly from Ryan Fish to jump ahead by a 2-0 score after their first time to bat off of Pippins starting pitcher Chase Farrell. A Taylor Wright RBI single in the 3rd inning gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead before the Pippins bats awoke in the bottom of the inning.

Two-run RBI doubles from Chris Arpan and Sam Mitchell gave Yakima Valley their first lead of the game at 4-3 before adding a run in the 5th inning to take a 5-3 lead ahead of each team scoring twice in the 7th frame.

Tylor Nixon and Crowder, who reached base for the third time in the game with the hit, each had RBI singles to get the Falcons tied at 5-5 before the Pippins offence came back with a pair of runs off of Owen Leonard to push the Pippins ahead by a 7-5 score.

Yakima Valley added plenty of insurance in the 8th inning thanks to six runs in the frame, including the three-run homer over the right field fence as the Pippins came away with the series victory with a 13-5 win over the Falcons. Leonard took the loss for Kelowna, pitching an inning and allowing four runs while Jack Gonzales earned the win for the Pippins.

The Falcons (6-9) return home to begin a six-game home stand against the very same Pippins (8-7) for a three-game weekend series at Elks Stadium beginning on Friday at 6:35 PM.
