Royals secure second seed in BC Division

The Victoria Royals lost 3-2 to the Everett Silvertips on Friday night at the Angel of the Winds Arena, as their record fell to 39-26-4-2 with one game remaining in the season.

Despite the loss, the Royals were able to clinch the second seed in the BC Division, as the Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 5-2. Victoria secured home-ice advantage in the opening playoff series, against none other than; the Vancouver Giants.

Three different Silvertips scored in the affair, while Dante Hannoun and Noah Gregor got one each for the Royals.

Griffen Outhouse was stellar, turning aside 41 of 44 shots, while Carter Hart of Everett was steady in goal, making 20 saves on 22 shots.

Royals' forward Tanner Kaspick recorded his 100th career WHL assist in the third frame. The St. Louis Blues' signed prospect has collected 158 points in 215 total WHL games split between Brandon and Victoria.

Former Royal, Spencer Gerth of Everett earned an assist in Friday's action. The product of Langley, BC played for Victoria from 2016-2018, dressing in 90 games, registering seven points in that span. Gerth began his career with the Silvertips before being moved to Victoria midway through the 2016-2017 campaign. The Royals then traded Gerth back to his original team at the 2018 Trade Deadline, in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

A pair of Royals skaters extended their point streaks Friday night. Royals veteran, Tyler Soy is riding a six-game point streak, recording 12 points during that span. Tanner Kaspick also has four points in his previous three contests.

The Royals conclude their regular season, looking for revenge tonight as the Silvertips will be in town for a rematch of last nights game.
