Mudslides and washouts cause multiple highway closures

If you have any road trips planned on this beautiful sunny Sunday, make sure to avoid the roads affected by mudslides and washouts.

Highway 8 is closed in both directions 25 km west of Merritt city center at Voght Street because of a washout. There is no estimated time of opening yet.

Another section of Highway 8 is also closed in both directions 300 m east of Lower Nicola at Guichon Creek due to flooding. An assessment is in progress and there is no estimated time of opening.

Highway 97A is currently closed in both directions from Grindrod to Sicamous due to a mud slide. A traffic controlled detour is available for passenger vehicles, light trucks and tour buses only.

Highway 6EW is reduced to single lane alternating traffic with a 24-hour pilot car service due to a washout 8 km east of Cherryville.

Also, portions of Highway 97 from Vernon to Kamloops are submerged under water.
