Air quality advisory issued for the BC Interior

The BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has issued an air quality advisory for a number of communities.

Areas in the South Okanagan, Similkameen, along with regions like Nicola, Fraser Canyon and Kootenay Lake are anticipated to experience increased smoky conditions.

  • Fraser Canyon (South): Trans Canada Hwy 1 from Lytton to Choate.
  • Kootenay Lake: Creston and Kaslo.
  • Nicola: Merritt, Strump Lake, Pennask Lake, and Brookmere.
  • Similkameen: Princeton.
  • South Okanagan: Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, Keremeos, Oliver and Osoyoos.

According to the current Air Quality Data Index, most regions look to remain at a low to moderate health risk.

Those exposed to wildfire smoke, should consider taking extra precautions to reduce exposure.

Wildfire smoke is expected to linger over the next 24-48 hours.

Current updates and bulletins can be found on Environment Canada.
