April 2019 weather wrap up: It was very, very dry

For the second month in a row, we’ve had less than 50% of our average seasonal monthly precipitation amount.

In March, Kelowna received only 10.0 millimetres of precipitation compared to the seasonal average of 21.6 mm for that month, and in April 2019, we only received 14.4 mm and the April average is 29.1 mm.

These numbers suggest that we’ve had a dry start to spring so far, however, the two upcoming months of May and June are typically the wettest months of the year.

Our temperatures last month were close to seasonal.

For April 2019, the average daytime high was 15.1°C and the average overnight low was 3.2°C, compared to seasonal maximum and minimum temperatures of 15.5°C and 1.3°C.

These seasonal temperatures are based on data between the years of 1981 to 2010.

Goldilocks would appreciate the temperate month of April as it is the sixth warmest month and the seventh coolest month of the year.

Looking ahead, we will see a bit of everything for the start of May 2019, and signs do point to gradual warming through this upcoming weekend.
