BC Wildfire reports no rain in sight for southern interior

Unfortunately, for most of the southern part of the province, there is no rain in the forecast at this point.

Kevin Skrepnek of the BC Wildfire Service says that the rain we saw over the weekend was “very much a temporary fixture,” although tracking weather is a “day by day” process.

Although temperatures have gone down compared to previous weeks, Skrepnek says they are expecting the southern interior to remain relatively dry this week.

Some showers are expected for the coast and northern B.C., but the southern interior will again remain dry going into the weekend.

Moving on into the week, some thundershowers and lightning activity is expected in the far north east of the province, as well as in the coastal region and in the north.

“We do expect that the wind is going to start to pick up towards Friday, Saturday,” says Skrepnek. “Wind has been a real key challenge for us, so if we are seeing that wind without any accompanying rain, we are likely going to have another increase in fire activity.”
