The long weekend is over and the mercury is set to soar in Kamloops.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for many parts of the B.C. Interior, including both the South and North Thompson.
Temperatures in and around Kamloops are expected to exceed 35°C today and will get up to around 40°C on by Thursday.
You won’t get much relief at night either, as overnight lows for the next three days are 19°C, 18°C and 20°C.
“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors,” reads the heat warning from Environment Canada. “Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.”
It also advises that you check in on older family and friends, as well as seek cool spots like a shaded area, pool or air conditioned building.
And it goes without saying, but “never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle” in this kind of heat.
The weather is expected to cool back down on Friday before getting back into the 20s with the potential of some rain on the weekend.
