Mother Nature is going to be right on target for the start of December 2018 with a cooling trend next week as modified Arctic air moves in starting Sunday. Daytime highs below freezing are on the way.
Our last month has been a bit warmer than usual with an average daytime high of 6.7C. From data collected between the years of 1981 and 2010, the month of November has a seasonal daytime high of 5.6C and is typically the fourth coolest month of the year.
We even saw four days in November 2018 that broke double digits, with November 4, 2018 being the warmest day last month, peaking at 14.1C.
Our average low in November 2018 stayed above freezing at 0.3C, whereas the seasonal average is -2.4C for the month of November.
We also usually start to see a measurable amount of snow in November, with a seasonal average of 13.6cm of snowfall. Although we had 10 days of snow on the ground recorded at the UBCO weather station this past month, the snow has since melted with our recent mild temperatures.
Overall, we had a drier November this year compared to average, with only 29.6mm of total precipitation (total rainfall and the water equivalent of the total snowfall in millimetres). The seasonal amount for the month is 36.7mm.
As mentioned, the first week of December is going to see temperatures get quite a bit cooler, so dig out those extra layers!
